Assam Health, Finance and Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday announced that the Functioning of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Guwahati will start from July this year. “Today we take pride that from July, we don’t need to visit AIIMS in Delhi. PM Modi has given us AIIMS at Changsari. The functioning of AIIMS will start from July,” Dr. Sarma said while addressing the gathering at Dhekiajuli in the Sonitpur District.
Attending the massive Public Meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “AIIMS Guwahati will bring about a qualitative change in lives, not only of People of Assam, but the entire North East. I wonder, why previous Governments never considered having an AIIMS in Guwahati.” On the other hand, the Prime Minister launched the ‘Asom Mala’ programme with an aim to boost the State’s Road infrastructure and contribute to the State’s Economic progress and improve connectivity. The programme is unique for its emphasis on effective maintenance through continuous Field data collection and its linkage with the Road Asset Management System. PM Modi also laid the foundation stones of Medical Colleges and Hospitals in Biswanath and Charaideo with an aim to boost Assam’s Health infrastructure.
