Assam Police shoots another accused who tried to flee custody
Guwahati: Another accused was shot by the Assam Police in Guwahati on Saturday on allegations that the accused had snatched the carbine gun of a constable and then flee.
A statement by the police said that the accused identified as Kurban Ali of Darrang’s Sipajahar who was arrested on August 6, 2021, along with suspected contraband heroin was being taken to Matia in Azara to track his associates when the incident took place. The police stated that while he was being taken to the site, Ali snatched constable Ashit Boro’s carbine gun and tried to flee. Boro during the incident was also injured.
The police team including personnel of the Bharalumukh Police Station in order to stop the accused had to shoot him.
The statement added, “The accused had to be fired upon to recapture him and recover the arms. He was hurt in the leg.”
The police also informed that as of now both the injured persons (Ali and Boro) are under medical attention. Ali is undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
