Suspected Heroin worth Rs 4.5 Crore seized in Guwahati
Guwahati: With the drug menace continuing in the state, Assam Police have been launching various operations to nab people related to the illegal drug rackets. On Thursday, a team of Guwahati Police intercepted a truck and arrested two persons along with suspected heroin worth Rs 4.5 crore from the Jorabat area of the City.
Commissioner of Guwahati Police, Harmeet Singh said that the operation was initiated based on a specific input about suspected drugs being transported in a truck. The police based on the input set up a check post and intercepted a truck bearing registration MN-04-9866. On checking the truck’s bed, the police did not find anything but after thoroughly searching the truck, the police found that about 60 packets of suspected heroin weighing 660 grams were hidden in the engine bay of the truck.
On verifying the suspected heroin, the police found that the drugs were worth Rs 4.5 crore.
The police also seized Rs 45000 in cash from the persons in the truck and also arrested two. The arrested persons were identified as Md Warish (26) and Jennison Tayenjam (20). Both of them belong to Thoubal in Manipur.
The police commissioner further added that the persons will now be questions as to where the consignments of the suspected drugs were being taken. He added that there were chances of the consignment being linked to an inter-state drug racket.
