17 Assam workers allegedly detained in Arunachal Pradesh

Guwahati: The All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA) alleged that at least 17 migrant labourers from Assam were detained “forcefully” by a road construction company in Arunachal Pradesh since August 16, 2021.

AASAA stated that the labourers are being physically harassed and threatened with dire consequences by the authorities of the construction company over “leaving the project in the mid-way”.

The workers were on an assignment for the construction of a national highway in Arunachal Pradesh.

The 17 workers who have been detained in Arunachal Pradesh were identified as Deep Tanti, Subham Tanti, Pradip Pandav, Tankeswar Das, Biju Telenga, Dimbeswar Telenga, Sankar Masuwa, Bijoy Sasoni, Bishal Munda, Binod Munda, Arjun Nayak, Krishna Bhumiz, Ramesh Gatowar, Uday Rawat, Dharmeswar Bhumiz, Yadav Manki, and Badal Manki.

The AASAA also stated that the two contractors, who escorted the workers, were also detained by the construction company.

AASAA further request Sivasagar Police to intercede in the matter and rescue the 17 detained workers. Meanwhile, the family members of the workers have filed police complaints in connection to the incident at Demow police station on Sunday.
