24-Hour Chakka Bandh on August 31 in Assam
Guwahati: The Assam Motor Shramik Joint-Federation (AMSJF) has called for a 24-hour total shutdown of commercial vehicles (chakka bandh) starting from August 31 condemning the killing of five truckers in the Dima-Hasao district.
Announcing the shutdown, the federation urged the Assam Government to provide an ex-gratia or financial assistance of Rs 15 lakh each to the families of the victims.
Apart from this, the federation also demanded that there need to be adequate security measures for protecting the truckers or motor workers in the state.
It may be mentioned that five-person were reported dead in a firing incident that took place on Thursday evening at Ranger Bill area under Diyungmukh in Dima Hasao district.
A group of four to five armed men stopped and opened fire at five Umrangso-Lanka bound trucks carrying coal and clinker. They had also set the trucks ablaze following this.
