BJP not concerned about Assam Flood: Assam Congress

Guwahati: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party government has not given due importance to Assam’s flood and erosion problems in Assam.

The Congress stated that Prime Minister Modi did not visit Assam even once during this time to take stock of the situation when Assam had almost all the districts flooded. The  Congress added that the BJP government at the Centre is concerned about floods in Bihar, West Bengal, and Kashmir but not a word on Assam is seen from the PM even now when Assam is reeling under floods.

Till Monday night more than 3.63 lakh people were affected by the floods in Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, West Karbi Anglong, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara, and Tinsukia districts, Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said.

An ASDMA report stated that at least four people including two children lost their lives in the state till Monday due to the ongoing flood.

The APCC Core Committee resolved in the meeting that the party leadership will launch strong protest programs on the failure of the Central Government to give a quick response to floods in Assam.
