AIUDF’s lone Hindu MLA joins BJP
Guwahati: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA from Bhabanipur, Phanidhar Talukdar resigned from the party and has officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday.
Talukdar resigned from the primary membership of the AIUDF on Tuesday.
In his resignation to the president of the AIUDF, Talukdar claimed that the reason behind his resignation was that it is for “the larger interest” of the people of his constituency as well as Assam.
In his resignation, Talukdar added, “I am also withdrawing my primary membership of the AIUDF party in the larger interest of the people of my constituency and the people of Assam.”
It may be mentioned that ever since the new government in the state took charge with Himanta Biswa Sarma being the Chief Minister, Talukdar is the third MLA from AIUDF to quit the party in order to join the BJP. Earlier, Congress MLA from Mariani constituency Rupjyoti Kurmi and Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain had both quit the Congress to join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
