Meghalaya | Administrative System for Cattle Import soon
Guwahati: With Assam implementing the new Cattle Protection Law which bans the transportation of cattle from Assam to anywhere else and also prohibits the slaughter of certain cattle, Meghalaya seems to be one of the most hit states as most of the cattle has to be transited to Meghalaya only via Assam.
This issue has been raised at the Meghalaya Assembly as well. Speak on the issue, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma said that he has taken up a discussion with the Chief Minister of Assam and further has gotten assurance from the Assam CM that the cattle import to Meghalaya will remain hassle-free. But, there due to some “non-clarity”, the discussion is still on.
Sangma told the house that there was a “principle agreement” that the documentation related to the traders will be from the Meghalaya’s side. The “non-clarity” related to these is being sorted out.
He also added that the Meghalaya government is also setting up administrative systems to ensure the import of legal cattle without any issues in the state.
