“Sigh of relief” for Paper Mill employees

Guwahati: Following a meeting with the employees of Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited (HPCL), Assam Government has reached an agreement with the workers to resolve the pending issues of pay and dues.

The meeting was held at the Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s office and it lasted for around four hours. The meeting was concluded in the wee hours of Wednesday.

In the meeting it was decided that a relief package of around Rs 570 crores will be given to the employees within two months on approval of proposal by NCLT submitted by Govt of Assam.

Taking the Twitter Sarma wrote, “Finally reached agreement with the workers and employees of Hindustan Paper Corporation to resolve long pending issues of their salaries and dues. Discussion lasted over 4 hours in my office and concluded at 2 AM. Back to home now. Will leave for north Assam tour at 8 AM.”

It may be mentioned that since October 2015 and March 2017, the two HPCL paper mills including Cachar Paper Mill of Pachgram in Hailakandi district, and Nagaon Paper Mill in Jagiroad of Morigaon district, have been shut down. The employees and workers of the two paper mills are yet to receive salaries for at least 55 months.
