Assam-Meghalaya ministers visit border dispute areas
Guwahati: Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya simultaneously surveyed interstate border areas to solve a long-standing boundary dispute on Saturday.
The areas of Pilingkata, Ganeshnagar, Maikhuli, Patarkuchi and Khanapara were inspected by Assam Water Resource Minister Pijush Hazarika, MLA Atul Bora, And Meghalaya Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong, as well as senior officials from both the states.
Ministers have also spoken with the residents to understand their views on the border issue.
Hazarika stated, ” The combined team has come to the areas to understand the local people’s perspective concerning the boundary issue and inspect developmental efforts.”
Hazarika further claimed that there were not many border difficulties or disputes where the team had visited. A detailed discussion of the boundary issues would enable both governments in finding a solution
Meanwhile, Meghalaya CM Tynsong said that the visits to the disputed areas are necessary to resolve any border disputes or conflicting views from the locals, and for that purpose, the joint team came to the areas.
It may be mentioned that after the submission of the inspection report, both the CMs will make a final decision on the issue.
