Guwahati: An Enforcement Inspector under the Transport Department has been arrested for alleged involvement in illegal coal smuggling in Cachar District of Assam.
The person identified as Bhaba Kalita. He was in charge of the check gate at Digarkhal.
Following intelligence inputs about the scam, the Cachar Police launched an operation to combat illegal coal smuggling in the Barak Valley.
According to reports, the smugglers have been utilizing Cachar district’s Gumrah as a secure gateway to enter Assam with illegally loaded trucks, with officials allegedly helping the truckers in their drive-through.
It may be mentioned that on October 18, Kalita was detained for more than 24 hours for interrogation.
