Guwahti: An employee of Assam’s Cachar paper mill of Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited died in Silchar Medical College and Hospital on Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Nripendra Chandra Day and he is a resident of Panchgram in Hailakandi district of Assam.
According to reports, he was suffering from bone cancer and was admitted to SMCH on Monday.
President of Joint Action Committee of Recognised Unions (JACRU) of Nagaon and Cachar mills Manabendra Chakraborty expressed his grief over the death of Dey.
Dey was unable to obtain better treatment because the paper mill workers’ salaries had not been paid for the previous 58 months.
It may be mentioned that the at least 96 people had died either due to starvation or lack of medical treatment from both the mills.
