Nagaland incident: Army regrets death of civilians
Guwahati: The Army expressed its “deep sadness” for the incident in Nagaland’s Mon district on Saturday evening, in which a soldier and several civilians were killed.
Three cops of the Indian Army headquartered in Dimapur of the state issued a statement where they stated that they regret the loss of lives at the Oting village of Mon district of the state. The Army also said that the incident and loss of life are being investigated at the highest level and appropriate action would be taken.
“Based on credible intelligence of likely movement of insurgents, a specific operation was planned to be conducted in the area of Tiru, Mon District, Nagaland,” the Army stated in a statement.
The statement also read, “The incident and its aftermath are deeply regretted. The cause of the unfortunate loss of lives is being investigated at the highest level and appropriate action will be taken as per the course of law.”
The Army said, “The security forces have suffered severe injuries in the incident, including one soldier who succumbed to injuries.”
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio promised a high-level investigation into the incident and urged everyone to keep the peace.
It may be mentioned that on Saturday evening, when some daily-wage labourers were coming home in a pick-up van from a coal mine between Oting and Tiru villages, an incident occurred, according to a police official.
