PM, DM to pay respect to CDS Rawat at Palam Airport
Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will pay their respect to CDS General Bipin Rawat and other members of the Armed Forces at around 9 p.m. today, at Palam Airport.
Ajit Doval, the National Security Advisor, and three Service Chiefs will also be in attendance.
CDS Bipin Rawat and other Armed Forces personnel who died in the chopper crash in Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor are expected to arrive in Delhi around 8 p.m. today. There will also be some family members of the personnel killed in the chopper disaster.
General Bipin Rawat, the Chief of Defence Staff, was killed after a Mi-17V5 helicopter crashed in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday. The four-star general was flying from Sulur airbase to Wellington. In the unfortunate event, he was accompanied by his wife Madhulika Rawat, who was also slain
Only three deceased remains have been positively identified so far: CDS Bipin Rawat, Madhulika Rawat, and Brig LS Lidder. Their mortal remains will be delivered to their relatives for final religious rites, if their families so wish.
Meanwhile, the task of positively identifying the mortal remains that have yet to be identified continues. The bodies of those killed in the chopper crash in Tamil Nadu will be kept at the Army Base Hospital Mortuary until positive identification procedures are completed.
