Guwahati: Guwahati and Agartala have been listed at the top of the air pollution index among the northeastern states. This was informed by the Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment on Friday.
The reports have informed that the problems of air pollution have been steadily growing in the north-eastern states which have affected the pristine blue skies and clear skies.
The high level of air pollution has been generated from massive motorization, traffic congestion, and the use of solid fuels. This has also led to public health crises in the hilly terrains and valleys.
The air quality of the northeast has been gradually degrading but has not drawn adequate public attention but in winter it can degrade more just like the cities of the National Capital Region and Uttar Pradesh.
Pollution is also high in smaller cities like Agartala and Kohima. The official records stated.
