PM Modi to lay foundation stone for Major Dhyan Chand Sports University

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday..

According to an official statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, the university will be built in an area covering the Salawa and Kaili villages of Sardhana town in Meerut at a cost of around 700 crores.

The establishment of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in the poll-bound state will be in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of instilling a sporting culture and constructing world-class sporting infrastructure throughout the country.

There will be modern and state-of-the-art sports infrastructure at the university infrastructure including synthetic hockey ground, football ground, basketball, volleyball, handball, kabaddi ground, lawn tennis court, gymnasium hall, synthetic running stadium, swimming pool, multipurpose hall and a cycling Velodrome.

It may be mentioned that the university will also have house facilities for shooting, squash, gymnastics, weightlifting, archery, canoeing, and kayaking, among other facilities with the capacity of training 1,080 sportspersons, including 540 women and as many men.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has recently announced a slew of projects in Uttar Pradesh ahead of next year’s Assembly elections, in which the party hopes to win a second term.
