AAU: 44 students test Covid-19 positive

Guwahati: Around 44 students from Assam Agricultural University (AAU) have been tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday.

According to reports, the pupils tested positive for the Covid-19 Omicron strain and had previously visited South Africa.

The students were reportedly discovered after undergoing a test using a specific kit produced by the ICMR-RMRC Lahowal. Their samples were then transferred to the Northeast Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) in Jorhat for genome sequencing.

However, Hostels 11 and 12 have been designated as confinement zones and are now closed.

It may be mentioned that the on Sunday, 988 new cases, with a positivity rate of 6.48 per cent, after testing 15,238 samples for COVID-19.

It needs to be mentioned that the tally in Assam has now gone up to 6,26,741.
