India Successfully Test-fires BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile

Guwahati: A naval variant of the advanced supersonic BrahMos cruise missile was successfully test-fired from a stealth guided-missile destroyer of the Indian Navy on Tuesday.

According to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the missile hit the specified target “precisely”

The DRDO tweeted, “Advanced Sea to sea variant of BrahMos Supersonic Cruise missile was tested from INS Visakhapatnam today. Missile hit the designated target ship precisely,”

According to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the missile was launched successfully which proved the robustness of the Indian Navy’s mission preparedness.

“The robustness of @indiannavy mission readiness is reconfirmed today after successful launch of the advanced version of BrahMos Missile from INS Vishakhapatnam today. I congratulate the wonderful team work of @indiannavy @DRDO_India & @BrahMosMissile,” Singh tweeted.

However, the supersonic cruise missile is manufactured by BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between India and Russia. It can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or ground platforms.

It may be mentioned that the BrahMos missile travels at 2.8 Mach, or nearly three times the speed of sound.
