Rahul Gandhi slams Centre for extinguishing Amar Jawan Jyoti flame
Guwahati: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday slammed the central government over its decision to extinguish the Amar Jawan Jyoti flame at India Gate.
Rahul Gandhi sharing his view on the government’s decision wrote on Twitter, “It is a matter of great sadness that the immortal flame that used to burn for our brave soldiers will be extinguished today.”
He added, “Some people cannot understand patriotism and sacrifice – never mind We will once again light the Amar Jawan Jyoti for our soldiers.”
According to reports, the news to extinguish the Amar Jawan Jyoti flame and merge it with the flame at the National War Memorial was confirmed by military officials on Thursday.
It may be mentioned that the eternal flame, lit in memory of the soldiers who were martyred during the India-Pakistan war in 1971, will be doused after around 50 years on Friday afternoon.
It needs to be mentioned that the Amar Jawan Jyoti was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on January 26, 1972.
