Assam: Bans Cultural, Award Functions For R-Day

Guwahati: In light of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in the state, Assam restricts Republic Day celebrations by prohibiting cultural events, award ceremonies, and prize distribution ceremonies on January 26.

According to an SOP issued by Assam State Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua, the celebration of the “Republic Day program would be limited to National Flag hoisting speech by Guest of Honour and Ceremonial Parade Only.”

Furthermore, the order stipulates that gathering in Kamrup (M) be limited to a maximum of 1000 people for state-level functions, 500 for district-level functions, and 200 for all other levels of functions.

However, school children must not be part of the ceremonial parade or march past. Only fully vaccinated trained police, security, and home guards are permitted to participate in the ceremonial procession and march past, according to the directive.

The Chief Secretary further orders that no pre-or post-Republic Day events will be held.
