Assam: Third Round of Eviction Carried out at Lahorijan
Guwahati: The land revenue department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has carried out the third phase in Lahorijan area of Assam adjacent to the Nagaland border on Sunday.
The drive has been particularly carried out in the Dudu Colony area of Lahorijan Block 3 at Balijan under Bokajan sub-division along the Assam-Nagaland border aimed at clearing a major chunk of KAAC revenue land from illegal encroachment.
The department assisted by the district administration and police force during the drive.
Following the eviction, the situation in the region became hostile as people disrupted the removal.
The department conducted an eviction drive in the neighbourhood in December of last year, evicting several people.
During the December eviction, 115 living units including concrete structures and makeshift shelters were evicted from an area comprising around 100 bighas of KAAC income land.
According to the KAAC Land and Revenue Department’s official records, a total of 210 bighas of government land in the area have been inhabited by questionable individuals.
