RG Lyngdoh: Paying HNLC will turn them from cubs to man-eaters
Guwahati: Former Meghalaya Home Minister RG Lyngdoh has said that the bomb blast in Shillong on Sunday evening was intended to scare businessmen. “Militants have employed this strategy in the past to intimidate soft targets.
The next stage will be to send extortion notes threatening to target individuals in the next bomb. Paying these extremists, on the other hand, is akin to feeding tiger cubs who will turn into man-eaters tomorrow “”Says Lyngdoh,” he says.
He stated that no money should be made to the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council by the business community (HNLC). Instead, they should spend the money on installing covert CCTV cameras in and around their businesses and homes so that potential criminals can be recognized.
“Society should also unite as one community to assist one another. We will all be victims if we do not get together to combat these anti-social groups ” Says Lyngdoh, says.
Lyngdoh reflected on the late 1990s and early 2000s, saying, “We were all in pain. We could only create peace and revive our economy if we all worked together – traditional institutions, civic society, the media, business people, police, and politicians. Let us not return to those times.” He claimed that the violence is not communal in nature because it will harm everyone. “Let us not be taken in by their ruses. Let us not be self-centered. Let us stand together to combat this violent tendency.”
According to him, the government should figure out what is causing the youth to be frustrated. These factors should be addressed, and young people should realize that concrete actions are being taken to safeguard their future security. “Legislators from all parties, as well as officials, should work together to address the issues that rural and urban adolescents face. Young people who are educated and talented should also be enlisted to help strategize and identify viable short- and long-term solutions “he stated
