Arunachal: Massive Protests Erupt Against China demanding release of Tapor Pullom

Guwahati: Massive anti-China protests were conducted in Monigong of Shi Yomi district in Arunachal Pradesh, demanding the return of Tapor Pullom, who was supposedly abducted by China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in 2015.

The protest march was organised by the All Shajee Youth Association in partnership with the Adi Bane Kebang local unit and was attended by Pullom family members.

The demonstrators organised peaceful protest demonstrations in Tato and Monigong, carrying banners and posters. The demonstrators have requested that the Indian government and its Chinese counterpart meet to discuss Tapor Pullom’s safe return home.

According to reports, Tapor Pullom and his friend Taka Yorchi were on a hunting expedition near the India-China border, when they were arrested by Chinese forces. However, Pullom’s friend Yorchi had managed to escape.

Meanwhile, Pullom’s family has pleaded with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to return him safely to India. When the then-Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju visited Monigong for border inspection in November 2015, the family members raised the issue with him.

Although Tapor Pullom’s family has been demanding his release for several years, the situation became more urgent after India successfully obtained the release of Mirom Taron, a 17-year-old teenager from Tuting circle in Upper Siang district.

It needs to be mentioned that Taron had gone missing since January 18 while he was at the international border. On January 27, Chinese PLA handed over Taron to the Indian Army.
