Guwahati: A hoax involving a suspected bomb caused panic in Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya on Sunday.
The suspected explosive was discovered in the Jingkieng locality of Nongthymmai district of Shillong.
According to police in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district informed that a ‘package’ containing a suspected bomb was discovered in the toilet of the Nongthymmai sports and cultural club’s indoor stadium in Shillong’s Jingkieng.
A stadium caretaker is said to have discovered the packet.
Following notification of the authorities, a bomb squad was deployed, which determined that the incident was a fake.
A note with the words “Bomb inside” was also discovered affixed to the packet.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya police department has opened a probe into the incident.
