Tripura: Shut all madrassas, demands BJP MLA
Guwahati: Tripura BJP MLA Sambhu Lal Chakma has demanded that all madrassas in the state be closed down.
This demand was made by a Tripura BJP MLA during a speech to the state assembly on Tuesday.
MLA Chakma claimed that attempts to “deceive and mislead” the state legislature would continue until the state’s madrassas were closed.
According to the BJP MLA, state-run madrassas were closed down in Assam.
Similar measures must be done in Tripura, he said.
In reaction to opposition CPI-M MLA Islam Uddin’s allegations that communal violence in Tripura’s Panisagar last year seeded seeds of communal unrest among communities, Tripura BJP MLA Sambhu Lal Chakma made statements.
Tripura BJP MLA Sambhu Lal Chakma said, “Our party (BJP) treats all religions equally. I believe that no specific religion should be given special treatment by the government.”
“All madrassas in Tripura should be closed like they were in Assam,” he continued.
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb was urged by the BJP MLA to take similar “measures” against the madrassas in the state.
