Guwahati: The Congress Assam has staged a protest against the arrest of Gujrat MLA Jignesh Mevani.
The protest has been staged across all the district headquarters as well as at the Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati today.
According to sources MPs, MLAs, former MPs, former MLAs, participated in Protest.
Moreover, Jignesh Mevani’s arrest has been termed as illegal and forcible arrest.
It may be mentioned that Mevani was arrested in Gujarat by an Assam police team on April 20 over a tweet on Modi that referred to Nathuram Godse.
However, after that he was granted bail by a court in Kokrajhar but later he was re-arrested by Barpeta police on Monday for assaulting officials, only days after being released on bail in another instance.
It is to be noted that he was further remanded a 5 day police custody in Barpeta district.
