Prez Kovind: Bodo Language Is Attracting Foreigners As Well

Guwahati: President of India Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday said that the Bodo language is also a source of attraction for foreigners.

The president expressed his delight at having the opportunity to speak at the Bodo Sahitya Sabha’s 61st annual conference in Tamulpur of Assam today.

The session was attended by the Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Conrad K Sangma, respectively, as well as the Governor of Assam, Professor Jagdish Mukhi, among other dignitaries.

As he began his speech, President Kovind thanked the chief ministers of both states. He also lauded Assam Chief Minister Sarma’s efforts in leading the state.

“The love and warmth I received from the people of Assam has pulled me back here,” he stated.

“Bodo is a fascinating language that attracts people from outside India as well,” the President stated of the Bodo language.

He also emphasised the importance of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha in popularising and bringing the Bodo language to the populace.

The President praised noted Bodo poet Rupnath Brahma for his contributions to the language’s and literature’s development. Sitanath Brahma was also known for his contributions to the development of the Bodo and Assamese languages.

In his address to the crowd, President Kovind mentioned Xudha kontho Bhupen Hazarika.

The Bodo Sahitya Sabha’s three-day conference began on May 2. The Assam government has granted state government employees special casual leave to attend the meeting in Kachubari, Tamulpur, in the Bodoland Territorial Region, which borders Bhutan and West Bengal.
