NIA sentences Yasin Malik To Life Imprisonment
Guwahati: A National Investigation Agency (NIA) court sentenced separatist leader Yasin Malik to life in prison in a terror funding case on Wednesday.
The separatist commander from Jammu and Kashmir was convicted to life in prison and fined Rs 10 lakh by an NIA court.
It needs to be noted that he was sentenced to life in jail twice, once for waging war against the country and the other for recruiting funds for terrorism, reported ANI.
The NIA had requested the death penalty for the separatist commander, who was found guilty on May 19.
Earlier on May 10, Malik told the court that he was contesting the charges against him, which included Sections 16 (terrorist act), 17 (raising funds for terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist act), and 20 (membership in a terrorist organisation) of the UAPA, as well as sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 124-A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
