Govt Panel approves Emergency Use of Covovax for Children of 7-11 Years

Guwahati: The Covovax vaccine from Serum Institute of India was recommended for children aged 7 to 11 by an expert panel, the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) on COVID-19 of India’s central drug regulator.

IANS cites unnamed sources as saying that the Covovax vaccine from Serum Institute of India has been recommended for childrens between the ages of 7 and 11 by the SEC of Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI).

The DCGI has been notified of the expert panel’s recommendation for final approval. The two applications were submitted by Prakash Kumar Singh, Director, Government and Regulatory Affairs at Serum Institute of India (SII) on March 16 and June 1.

However, the DGCI will examine it before giving the recommendation final approval. According to the source, the expert panel had asked Serum Institute for more details regarding the application during its most recent meeting in April.

Covovax had received approval from India’s medicines regulator for limited use in emergency scenarios for adults on December 28, 2021, and for use in the 12 to 17 age group with specific criteria on March 9.
