Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Temple Concludes Today in Guwahati

Guwahati: The annual Ambubachi Mela taking place at the Kamakhya temple in the Nilachal Hills of Guwahati today marks the end.

Early on Sunday morning, the main entrance to the Kamakhya temple was opened for visitors. Since the doors opened, a horde of worshippers have flocked to the temple to seek Goddess Kamakhya’s blessings.

Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and his wife went to the temple early this morning in order to receive the blessings of Goddess Kamakhya.

It should be noted that the Ambubachi Mela began on June 22 despite some limits put in place as a result of the continuing flooding in Assam and the concern over an increase in Covid-19 infections.

The Ambubachi festival is held during the monsoon season in the idea that Goddess Kamakhya goes through her yearly cycle of menstruation at this time. The temple is closed for three days from the seventh day of the Hindu calendar’s “Ashadh” month to the tenth day as part of customary seclusion during menstruation.

The doors are ceremoniously opened on the twelve-day mark, and a sizable fair is hosted there. The worshippers will be blessed and nurtured by the fecundity that the Goddess brings in.
