Assam Origin Justice Ujjal Bhuyan Sworn as Chief Justice of Telangana HC
Guwahati: Assam origin Justice Ujjal Bhuyan take the oath of office as the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court on Tuesday in a ceremony held in Hyderabad’s Raj Bhavan.
Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath of office to Justice Bhuyan. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao also attended the ceremony.
Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy, Telangana State Cabinet Ministers including Law Minister A Indrakaran Reddy, TPCC President A Revanth Reddy and senior officials were present on the occasion.
Justice Ujjal Bhuyan was named as the new Chief Justice on June 19. Justice Satish Chandra Sharma who was appointed to the Delhi High Court was replaced by him The Supreme Court Collegium had last month recommended elevation of Justice Bhuyan, a judge of Telangana High Court, as the Chief Justice. He serves as the Telangana State Legal Services Authority’s Executive Chairman as well.
Justice Bhuyan has previously served as a judge on the Bombay High Court before being nominated to the Telangana High Court.
In any case, this was the first time Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao had been to the Raj Bhavan or spoken with Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan since the latter had, among other things, accused the State administration of breaking protocol. The duo exchanged pleasantries soon after the Chief Minister’s arrival as well as during the high tea after the swearing-in ceremony.
The Chief Minister made it abundantly clear by attending the occasion that neither he nor the State administration intended to stray from protocol or Constitutional requirements.
