Maha Crisis: Shinde’s Meeting with Rebel MLAs Underway
Guwahati: Rebel Shiv Sena MLA Eknath Shinde is currently meeting with other MLAs in Goa to plan the next steps after Uddhav Thackeray resigned as chief minister of Maharashtra on Wednesday.
Notably, if there had been a Floor Test against the Uddhav administration, the MLAs would have left for Mumbai this morning. With the cancellation of the test, the MLAs are likely to depart from Goa after a night layover from Guwahati.
Maharashtra Assembly Secretary Rajendra Bhagwat informed all state legislators earlier today that the governor’s directives prevented the special session from being held as scheduled on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the BJP which has 106 MLAs and is the largest party in the Maharashtra Assembly, is expected to make claim to form the state’s next government since the stage is currently set for its return. Devendra Fadnavis, who now serves as the Leader of the Opposition, plans to run for Chief Minister a third time. The party’s top brass was met twice in a week by Fadnavis in Delhi, and he stated that the next step would be revealed today.
