Guwahati: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Meghalaya has filed a bogus news release that was issued under the party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s name when he was in the state on June 29 by filing a FIR with the state police’s cyber unit.
The “false” news release claimed that All-India Trinamool Congress (AITC) had unveiled the second list of party candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Meghalaya in 2023 and bore the “forged” signature of AITC national general secretary.
The Trinamool Congress claimed that the press release was contrived and faked and it was released to harm both the party’s reputation and the reputations of those named in it. The party has requested the state police to act right once to detain those responsible for writing and disseminating the false press release.
