Muslim Religious Leader Shot Dead in Maharashtra’s Nashik

Guwahati: A 35-year-old religious figurehead for the Muslim minority was shot and killed on Tuesday in the Nashik district of Maharashtra.

The leader was shot in MIDC area of Yeola town in Nashik.

A group of four unidentified people opened fire on the spiritual leader, an Afghan native. He has been identified as Khwaja Sayyad Chishti, who was popularly known as ‘Sufi Baba’ in Yeola.

Officials claim that Chishti was shot in the forehead by the assailants, who then left him there to die. Chishti’s SUV was taken by the attackers, who then left the area.

However, the motive for the murder is not yet established.

Meanwhile, a murder case has been registered at the Yeola Police Station and an investigation is underway to nab the killers.
