Nagaland: Kohima to impose penalty on usage for single-use plastic
Guwahati: The Kohima District Task Force (DTF) has set penalties for defaulters in the district’s rural and urban districts for disobeying the government’s directive to completely ban all single-use plastics.
The DTF decided to fine businesses and defaulters who are caught using or selling the prohibited single-use plastic items with Rs 1,000 for the first offence, Rs 5,000 for the second offence, and Rs 10,000 with the cancellation of licence for the third offence at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Kohima deputy commissioner Shanavas C.
Government representatives, NGOs, churches, and other stakeholders all attended the gathering.
The gathering also decided to schedule a meeting with the NGOs and Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industries in the near future. In order to raise awareness about the prohibited plastic objects, it was also agreed to broadcast the necessary information on numerous platforms.
The DTF also made the decision to discuss the problem of plastic disposal with some effective waste management techniques.
DC Shanavas noted the ideas and opinions expressed by the participants, but added that the exercise will only be successful with the help of all interested NGOs, churches, and other stakeholders.
The state government of Nagaland imposed a complete ban on all single-use plastics with respect to items that have been identified as containing single-use plastic in an effort to end the plastic menace and the severe environmental and ecological problems that its widespread use of plastics has created.
