Railway Network In Dima Hasao Restored, Trains To Run Soon: NFR
Guwahati: A senior Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) official said on Tuesday that the train network connecting Dima Hasao district in Assam, which was damaged by floods and landslides has now been repaired.
“Despite rain acting as a hindrance in the work process, N F Railway completed restoration of the hill portion within the intended time period,” stated NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Sabyasachi De.
He claims that the segment that connects the Barak valleys of Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, and Manipur will soon see the return of train service as well.
“Full-fledged rail connectivity will soon resume to and from the southern part of the Northeast, starting with freight services. Railway has put all its efforts in restoring the damaged line and re-starting the train services,” he mentioned in a statement.
The North easterners had earlier received assurances from Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw that train service in the hill region will resume by July 10.
It may be noted that during the second week of May of this year, landslides caused by excessive rains severely damaged 85 kilometres of railway track in the Lumding-Badarpur hill region of the Lumding division.
The railway ministry had approved spending of Rs 180 crores for the renovation of the railway lines in Dima Hasao.
