‘Acharya’ Pankaj Pathak Granted Bail
Guwahati: Pankaj Pathak, a self-described Ayurveda expert who was detained earlier today in Assam’s Barpeta district, was granted bail in a case involving allegations that he made disparaging comments about a woman scribe on social media.
Pathak was apprehended and sent to the Hatigaon police station in Guwahati.
Speaking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Pathak was granted bail since it was a bailable offence who also warned that Pathak would face further arrest if he continued to make similar comments.
Pathak allegedly published a number of character-assassinating posts on his Facebook account about the woman and her husband. Following his comments, a number of groups filed FIRs against Pathak, alleging that he had insulted the woman’s modesty.
In response to his comments and the uproar from the public, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also ordered the state police to detain Pankaj Pathak.
According to reports, the so-called Ayurveda specialist was hiding out in Muslimpatty in Mridul’s house. After the latter’s confession, he was taken into custody.
