UP: Cracks, Potholes On Bundelkhand Expressway Week After Inauguration By PM Modi

Guwahati: A segment of the 296-km-long Bundelkhand expressway in Uttar Pradesh developed severe potholes as a result of nonstop rain just one week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticised the BJP-controlled government in the state while displaying a video of the Expressway that revealed sections of the roadway had caved in about one and a half feet deep.

According to reports, the state of the roads contributed to incidents involving two automobiles and a bike.

“This is a sample of the quality of BJP’s half-hearted development. The Bundelkhand Expressway was inaugurated by ‘big people’ (an indirect attack on PM Modi) and within a week huge pit of corruption came out on it. It is good that the runway was not built on it,” Akhilesh Yadav wrote.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also joined the procession and shared a video of the expressway to criticise slammed state chief minister Yogi Adityanath and PM Narendra Modi.

According to Durgesh Upadhyay, the public relations officer for the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), the road was not inundated in water. Waterlogging caused a section of the road to be buried, he continued. “After the crew fixed it, traffic returned to normal. Someone created a video that went viral during the repair, he continued.

PM Modi placed the expressway’s foundation stone on February 29, 2020, and it was officially opened on July 16 of that same year.

The highway which was constructed for about Rs 14,850 crore runs through seven districts in Uttar Pradesh: Chitrakoot, Banda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Auraiya, and Etawah.

It stretches from NH-35 at Gonda village near Bharatkoop in the Chitrakoot district to close to Kudrail village in the Etawah district. It then joins the Agra-Lucknow Expressway there.
