City Buses To Not Ply On Several Routes Today in Guwahati
Guwahati: Numerous city bus routes in Guwahati on Friday have been closed off due to a dispute between the transportation department and bus drivers.
According to reports, city bus drivers and conductors have complained about the transport department’s purported inaction on a number of issues that are bothering them.
Today, bus drivers and conductors organised rallies in the Basistha area of Guwahati against the transport department’s resistance to hear about their issues.
They alleged that city buses do not have designated stoppage points in several parts of the city.
Additionally, they claimed that the ones that are present are mostly used as parking spaces by smaller vehicles.
Bus drivers who are protesting claim that because the authorised stoppages are filled, buses are forced to stop either before or after the indicated stoppage spots, causing traffic jams and drawing harsh fines from traffic police authorities.
Guwahati municipal bus crew members picketed near the halting point in Basistha, screaming slogans against the transport department, after repeated requests for the matter to be investigated were ignored.
