India: Third Case Of Monkeypox Reported From Kerala’s Malappuram

Guwahati: Kerala has confirmed the third monkeypox case to have occurred in India.

A 35-year-old man who arrived in Kerala from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) earlier this month has tested positive for the viral illness, according to reports.

The Malappuram resident arrived in the state on July 6, and according to Kerala Health and Family Welfare Minister Veena George, he has had a fever since July 13.

His health has stabilised since he was admitted to Malappuram’s Manjeri Medical College. The minister added that everyone who had direct touch with the patient is being thoroughly watched and that their health status is stable.

George clarified that despite increased testing and surveillance across the state, there was no cause to be alarmed about the disease. Additionally, the minister mandated that all state health professionals have the necessary training to manage the illness.

Notably, India reported a second case of confirmed monkeypox from Kerala’s Kannur district last week. The patient, who is being treated at the Pariyaram Medical College in the southern state, is a native of Kannur in the north of Kerala. She arrived there on July 13.

On July 14, Kerala announced the first case of monkeypox. The patient is currently receiving care at Thiruvananthapuram’s Government Medical College Hospital.
