India reports fourth monkeypox case in Delhi

Guwahati: The first case of monkeypox without a prior travel history was reported in Delhi on Sunday, making it the fourth confirmed case of the viral disease in India.

An untraveled 31-year-old man tested positive for the virus. The man had recently attended a stag party in Himachal Pradesh’s Manali. He had skin blemishes and a fever when he was hospitalised around three days ago.

The patient is now receiving treatment at the Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi.

The patient’s status is currently stable, reports said.

The epidemic of monkeypox has been deemed a global health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO), who made this announcement on Friday.

The agency urged nations in the South-East Asia region to step up public health and surveillance efforts for the illness. 75 nations have reported more than 16,000 cases of monkeypox, including four from India and one from Thailand.
