Sikkim Govt To Set Up Police Reform And Disciplinary Committee

Guwahati: Sikkim Chief Minister P S Tamang announced on Sunday that the government would establish a police reform and disciplinary committee to create plans for reforming the police force.

CM Tamang hosted a meeting at his official residence with the state police department’s top brass on Sunday.

He declared that “a strategy for the welfare of the police employees as well as for the reform of the force” was required.

The group will be led by additional director general of police (ADGP) Akshay Sachdev. The committee will assess the state of the police force during the meeting.

Senior Sikkim police personnel would be on the panel, according to reports. Within a month, they are required to submit their report.

In addition, it is said that 50 members of the Sikkim police force will receive training in stress management, mental health counselling, and behavioural psychology in Bengaluru.

The National Institute of Mental Health Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru and the Sikkim police department have inked a memorandum of understanding in this regard.
