Guwahati: Power, Water Supply In MLA Hostels To be Stopped Ahead Of Demolition
Guwahati: The principal secretary of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Hemen Das has ordered that the water and electricity supplies to the Guwahati MLA dorms be cut off.
In accordance with a directive dated July 25, Das informed that the MLAs housed in the hostel that water and power will be cut off as of midnight on July 31.
This comes after MLAs living in the Assam-style dormitories there were requested to leave the area so that the hostels could be demolished.
It may be noted that resident MLAs had been requested to leave the area by July 20, but the instructions were disregarded.
The official order read, “Kindly refer to our earlier letter No. LAH.21/2021/106 dated 28.04.2022, LAH (N) 4/961894 dated 7 May, 2022 and LAPSY.13/2022/1154 dated 30.05.2022 wherein you were requested to vacate your quarter by 20th July, 2022.”
“In this regard, it is informed that on and from 1st August, 2022, the Hostel will be dismantled and for that electricity power and water supply will be disconnected on 31 July, 2022 midnight,” it added.
It may be noted that an official notification had stated that new residential buildings were to be constructed there in place of all the legislators’ old quarters, cottages, and hostels.
The decision also said that the members will receive Rs 50,000 as a housing rent allowance up until the construction of the new premises.
The amount will be given directly to the members from the time they leave the cottages or hostels until the project is finished.
