Guwahati: A youth allegedly died due to landslide in Tinsukia district of Assam.

The tragedy took place at Ledo 6 No line of Tirap Colliery (NEC) under Margherita of the district.

The deceased have been identified as 20-year-old Subham Das.

According to reports, Subham Das passed away while carrying coal that had been obtained illegally.

Reportedly, the deceased person was working for a coal mafia named Prabin Tanti of Ledo Tea Estate.

Subham was engaged by Tanti to illegally obtain coal from the collieries.

Subham Das is the only son of Tapan Das, a daily wage labourer and a resident of 1 Number Coal para-Ledo.

However, a resident stated that when Subham perished in the landslide, the body was not sent for police verification or for postmortem as Prabin Tanti threatened his family to keep silent on the matter.

Subham’s dead body was cremated at Tikak Colliery Crematorium later without letting the authorities know anything.

According to reports, “many of these occurrences occurred during the past few months, and many of the workers perished while stealing coal from collieries.”

Many school dropouts share a connection with the illegal coal nexus with Subham. A teacher at Margherita College claimed that young people were stealing coal from collieries in order to supplement their income.
