Guwahati: Tensions erupted after a vehicle worker in Guwahati’s Basistha was allegedly beaten repeatedly by two other people while being labelled a thief on Thursday.
Two young people reportedly mistook the worker for a robber and beat him up before reporting him to the police.
The incident took place last night in the Basistha area of the city’s Nalapara locality. The victim has been identified as Bilat Ali.
Meanwhile, the victim’s friends and co-workers stormed the police station at night demanding justice.
They claimed that the attackers beat Ali repeatedly with a belt while calling him a thief. He was subsequently turned over to the police.
The assailants have been identified as Manoj and Avdesh. The victim also claimed that he was assaulted after seeing the two acting inappropriately around a woman.
The incident has caused tensions to flare with the police initiating an investigation into it. More information will come later.
