Both Houses In Parliament Adjourned Till Noon Amid Commotion
Guwahati: The Upper and Lower Houses of Parliament were suspended until midday on Friday after many lawmakers raised a stir on a variety of problems.
The ninth day of the monsoon session of the parliament commenced today amid protests by the opposition in both houses. The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned within minutes with opposition leaders continuing to demand a discussion on the issues of price rise, GST and the Agnipath scheme.
The declaration was made by deputy chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh after he claimed that Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu had rejected five notices that opposition MPs like Congress leader of the House Mallikarjun Kharge and Deepender Singh Hooda had submitted under Rule 267.
The notices were turned down by the chairman since Singh also stated that the Centre is prepared to hold a discussion on price increases starting the following week.
Meanwhile, MPs of opposition parties rushed into the well holding placards over the issue of price rise and other issues. Despite repeated requests from the chair to allow the House to work, sloganeering persisted, thus the deputy chairman made the decision to adjourn the meeting until midday.
Congress leadere Mallikarjuna Kharge accused the BJP for using unethical tactics to avoid talking about price increases and claimed that the party kept pursuing an apology from Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury even after he had already apologised.
He told ANI, “They are purposefully doing this so they don’t have to confront topics like price rise and inflation.”
