AIUDF urges Assam CM to offer appropriate compensation to evicted families
Guwahati: The opposition All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has urged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to pay compensation for the rebuilding of the homes of families who have legal title to their property but were removed during a government operation in the Karimganj district of Assam.
A fact-finding team from the AIUDF visited numerous villages inside the Patherkandi revenue circle and found that the district government reportedly executed eviction in an “in humanitarian manner,” breaking fundamental procedures and human rights.
According to official, the countless individuals facing eviction have land pattas, documentation attesting to their allotment, and registered deeds in their names.
The official claimed that the majority of these residents are from the areas with worse economies.
Officials declared that the cruel eviction effort clearly infringes upon the right to shelter, which is outlined in Article 21 of the Indian Constitution as a basic right.
According to the evicted families, several of their houses, which were built as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, were bulldozed, official added.
Meanwhile, the AIDUF urged the chief minister to offer alternative land and PMAY homes for the resettlement of those who had been living on government land for a very long time, as well as sufficient compensation for the rebuilding of the homes of families who had been forcibly removed and who had valid land records.
Additionally, they want CM to issue the necessary instructions for the reconstruction of all PMAY homes lost during the eviction campaign and to make suitable preparations for the affected families’ food, shelter, and medical care until their relocation.
The AIUDF leaders also asked Sarma to release the correct guidelines so that no eviction would occur without first making proper arrangements for the evicted families’ resettlement.
