Assam’s Nayanmoni Saikia To Be Promoted As DSP
Guwahati: Assam native Nayanmoni Saikia, a part of the Indian Women’s team that won the gold medal in lawn bowling at the 2022 Commonwealth Games will be promoted as DSP.
The decision was taken by Assam Forest Department.
She currently works as a Constable with the Assam Forest Department.
Nayanmoni was born into a middle-class family in Golaghat district of Assam. She has always had a strong enthusiasm for sports, and she began her athletic career through weightlifting. However, because of her leg injury and declining ability, she decided to play lawn bowls because it was an injury-free sport.
She participated in the sport and frequently represented India and Assam. In individual and team competitions at the National Games in 2011 and 2015, she took home gold medals.
Additionally, she won the girls’ under-25 division gold medal at the 2012 Asian Lawn Bowls Championship.
Moreover, she represented the nation at the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The Indian Women’s team, led by Lovely Choubey and included Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia, and Rupa Rani Tirkey, won the gold medal in Lawn Bowl at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Tuesday, writing history in the process.
