Congress MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi Resigns
Guwahati: Congress MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi announced his resignation from the Haryana Assembly on Wednesday, the day before he joined the governing Bharatiya Janata Party.
Bishnoi submitted his resignation to Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta.
A byelection from the Adampur seat in the Hisar district, which Bishnoi now represents, would be required as a result of his retirement. Following his cross-vote in the Rajya Sabha elections in June, Bishnoi, 53, was swiftly removed by the Congress from all party positions.
Bishnoi declared shortly after submitting his paperwork “I accepted BS Hooda’s challenge to step down from my position. I now dare him to run for office in the Adampur constituency and win.”
The party had ignored him for the position of its Haryana unit president during a revamp earlier this year, and the four-time MLA and two-time MP had raised a flag of mutiny following that. It will be the second time in just six years that the younger son of former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal has parted ways with the Congress.
Bishnoi gathered his supporters in Adampur and asked for their opinions on joining the BJP on Tuesday night. All present raised their hands in support. He then informed them that the lengthy exile should come to an end. According to him, he will go to Chandigarh on August 3 and resign as an assembly member, and on August 4 he and his followers will join the BJP at the request of the residents of the Adampur seat.
Bishnoi said the way the people of Adampur have showered their blessings on his family, no other constituency can match it. The Adampur region would continue to expand at a rapid pace and will once more be a shining example of progress, he said. Bishnoi said, “Before a new political journey, I reached out to my loved ones and discussed in depth, and as always got a lot of love and support, for which I will always be grateful to the people of Adampur,” in a tweet that he sent out in Hindi on Tuesday night.
