Tejaswin Shankar Bags India’s First Medal in Track and Field in CWG 2022

Guwahati: Tejaswin Shankar established India’s track and field career after winning the bronze medal in the men’s high jump final on Wednesday at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

Tejaswin won bronze with a best throw of 2.22 metres, while Australia’s Brandon Starc won silver and New Zealand’s Hamish Kerr won gold with a throw of 2.25 metres.

23-year-old Tejaswin got things going with a successful jump of 2.10m on his first try. He executed a graceful jump and breezed through the 2.15-meter hurdle on his first try. The 2.19-meter jump was then done with force.

Tejaswin was guaranteed a bronze when Bahamas’ Donald Thomas failed to jump 2.25 in his final attempt. Tejaswin decided to attempt the 2.28m with his final jump knowing that he would win a medal whatever, but he was unable to clear it and had to settle for the bronze.
